Vosch, at first a savior who takes charge, has more up his sleeve, and Cassie is left to flee through the woods, clutching her little brother's beloved teddy bear. One day, Army tanks show up (the military is immune to the power outage, a fact never explained), and the intimidating Colonel Vosch ( Liev Schreiber) carts the children off in school busses to an undisclosed location, promising the panicked adults that they will soon follow. The rest of the family trek to a makeshift refugee camp in the woods (where everyone is armed to the teeth). And the fifth wave, unknown, is imminent.Ĭassie's mother dies in the plague. The fourth wave involves snipers who stalk and kill the survivors of the other waves. The third wave is a plague that kills millions more.

The second wave is a series of tsunamis that wipe out coastal areas. Then come the different "waves" of attack from the aliens referred to as " The Others." The first wave is an electromagnetic pulse that kills the power across the globe. Her "normal" life disappears when a mysterious object appears in the sky over earth. After a long, painful upward crawl through the rubble, with Ben bleeding profusely the whole time, they reach.Cassie lives with her parents ( Ron Livingston and Maggie Siff) and her little brother Sam ( Zackary Arthur). He promises Cassie that he’ll find her later, but she feels like he is actually saying good-bye. Cassie takes his gun and shoots the Silencer who’s guarding Sammy.Įvan leads them through a collapsed corridor to an exit stairwell and tells them to wait for the evacuation plane to take off and then run north.
She shoves their Silencer beneath the grate, and Evan kills him.
Cassie sees a cockroach fall through the grating and knows that Evan is nearby. Vosch exits the room to investigate, leaving them guarded by two Silencers. Vosch pushes the button to execute Sammy, but it doesn’t work because Evan has managed to hack into the main computer. Vosch tells Cassie he’ll let Sammy live if she tells him who helped her infiltrate the base. Sammy is put into the room with the two-way mirror: the execution room. Moments later, they run right into Vosch and a Silencer takes Sammy away. Ben says he knows the way to the escape pods, and they take off together. Because of Sam, they decide they can trust each other. Ben doesn’t remember Cassie, but of course she remembers him. However, Sammy intervenes and makes the necessary introductions, and disaster is averted.
She grabs Sammy and heads back down the tunnel.Īt this point, she and Ben meet face to face, both determined to kill each other.
Sammy says that the children are supposed to be evacuated on a plane, but Cassie doesn’t want to be taken to another Camp Haven. These are preprogrammed rockets set to deliver the occupants to an unspecified distant location. From Evan’s words, she knows that they have to find the escape pods-probably somewhere near Vosch’s quarters.
